State of Maryland Small Business Assistance Programs
We wanted to provide our clients guidance with a one-stop shop for eligible programs that have been specifically catered to small businesses in the State of Maryland. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered the closure of all non-essential businesses effective 5 p.m. Monday, March 23, as an additional measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The governor’s Office of Legal Counsel provided the following non-exhaustive list of businesses, , organizations, and facilities that are included in the federal critical infrastructure sectors.
The order does not require these businesses, organizations, and facilities to close.

President Trump Signs Coronavirus Relief Bill that Contains Employer Tax Credits
Today, President Trump signed the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act” (the “Act”) to provide emergency supplemental appropriations and support Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Parts of the Act provide for emergency family and medical leave benefits, emergency paid sick leave benefits, and employer and self-employed tax credits and exclusion from employer FICA tax with respect to the payment of those benefits.
